Oral history interview with Sylvia Allper, Feb. 3, 1983.

Alper relates that she was reared in Portland, Oregon, received her degree in sociology from the University of Washington, and in 1930 married Al Allper. She worked in a number of social work positions before attending graduate school at Washington University in St. Louis. She then returned to Seattle and became the director of the Educational Center, which was funded by the Council of Jewish Women, Seattle Section, and the Community Chest. Allper discusses the units and services of the center, including a children's health clinic, a dental clinic, art and dance classes, a nursery school, and a glee club. Allper also describes her work to establish interactions between the Ashkenazic and Sephardic communities.
